Accessibility and assistance services

We promote as accessible travel as possible. View the Access Conditions here. Read the more detailed directions below.

Please inform in advance about any disabilities, a personal assistant or assistance dog

When making travel reservations, please inform about any disabilities that limit your movements as well as about an accompanying personal assistant or assistance dog. When booking your trip online, at the Passenger information page, tick the box for “Passenger with reduced mobility” and specify your limited mobility in the field marked “Disabilities” . The notes you make are saved to the passenger list. The information is vital for us to prepare for your need of assistance onboard the ship.

When you board the ship, we recommend that you report your arrival at the reception on deck 6 on m/s Finlandia.

Assistance service

Assistance service is available at both Helsinki West harbour and Tallinn A-Terminal. The assistance service provided by the port is for passengers with reduced mobility due to a physical or mental disability, with visual or hearing impairments, with temporarily reduced mobility or because of old age and for anyone passenger requiring special assistance during embarkation and disembarkation. The service is free of charge.

Please contact our sales department separately or your travel agency at least 48 hours prior to your departure about your need for assistance service. At the same time please inform us if you are using a wheelchair or other assistive devices and if you are accompanied by a personal assistant or assistance dog on your voyage

Book the assistance service at our sales department. The assistance service is a service according to the EU regulation No 01177/2010 (information behind the link in Finnish) on passenger rights at maritime and inland waterway passenger services.

Register for assistance service at the terminal

Please arrive in good time at the terminal and report at the pick up point, which is located at the entrance, in front of the kiosk at Helsinki West Terminal 2. The pick up point is also marked on the map. In Tallinn A-Terminal the pick up point is located opposite the Eckerö Line check-in, at the information desk.

The pre-booked assistant arrives when summoned and assists with check-in and to the ship. At arrival the passenger is assisted from the ship to the pick up point.

The assisted person’s luggage

The assistance service also assists with luggage. The assisted person may have a maximum of two bags, which together should not exceed 35 kilos in weight. If there is more luggage, the transportation from check-in on board and off must be otherwise arranged, by for example a travel companion or a personal aid.

The terminals

Both West Terminal in Helsinki and A-Terminal in Tallinn are accessible. Terminal personnel will provide guidance about lift locations and a unobstructed access to and from the ship.

Onboard m/s Finlandia

An informative brochure on safe travel is found at the ship’s info desk on deck 6 and in the cabins. Please contact ship personnel for more information about safety during the voyage.

In the event of any special situation, the ship’s personnel at the info desk will tell you what has happened and how you should proceed. If you have a hearing impairment, the personnel will, with the help of the pictures and texts in the brochure, tell you how to act in the situation.

In order to promote accessibility on board, for example the following factors have been taken into account:

  • The lifts operate between decks 3–8. The sun deck, deck 9, is accessed by a lift next to the green staircase at the bow of the ship.

  • All customer toilets on decks 7 and 8 have accessible toilets too.

  • We also have accessible cabins and all restaurants onboard are easy accessed.

  • To make it easier to detect changes in elevation, we have applied contrasts to the surfaces and increased the amount of handrails and accessibility in aisles across the ship. Please note, however, that the ship may be congested from time to time. In interior design choices, we pay attention to lighting and strive to minimize echoing. The proportion of unscented detergents is increased whenever possible.

  • At the buffet, special diets are marked next to the dishes (ask the personnel for more information on allergies).

  • Please note that, due to ship safety regulations, some of the ship’s doors are heavier than usual or equipped with a sill.

Freight vessel Finbo Cargo

The cargo ship Finbo Cargo operates the Vuosaari–Muuga route and only passengers with cars are taken on board. Due to structural reasons, the cargo ship is not an accessible ship and assistance services are not available in Vuosaari. We cannot recommend m/s Finbo Cargo if you have mobility limitations.
