Eckerö Line is the ninth best workplace in Finland – The employees value especially the equality of the company and the relevance of their work

The Finnish shipping company Eckerö Line has been selected as the ninth best workplace in Finland in the category of large companies. The recognition was granted by the Great Place to Work organisation, which publishes annually a list of the best workplaces in Finland, categorised by company size. The list is based on employee experience measured by personnel research, made separately in each organisation added to the list.

According to Taru Keronen, CEO of Eckerö Line, all Eckerö Line’s employees have contributed to the company’s excellent ranking in the list of the best workplaces in Finland.

"We have become one the best workplaces in Finland in very challenging circumstances, as the more than two-year-long COVID-19 crisis has hampered our business significantly. Behind such an achievement lies all our staff, and the strong sense of belonging in our company. We work for the best interest of our customers together; everyone's contribution is important, and everyone does their best. We have worked determinedly to develop the company culture, leadership, and internal communication, and we now reap the harvest of these efforts, for example in the form of this recognition," Taru Keronen says.

Eckerö Line's personnel particularly appreciates the equality of their employer. They feel that everyone is treated in the same way regardless of gender, sexual orientation, origin, or age. At Eckerö Line, everyone is also allowed to be themselves and their work effort is considered important. According to the survey conducted by Great Place to Work, the personnel consider the company as a whole to be a really good place to work.

The biggest improvements compared to the previous measurement can be seen, among other things, in the experience of the staff that management treats personnel as individuals, not just as employees. On the other hand, the challenging COVID-19 period has been reflected, for instance, in the fact that the celebration of special events and opportunities for professional development have been more limited.

"Eckerö Line has been involved in the Great Place to Work programme since 2015. We have achieved the Great Place to Work certificate for four years in a row, and now - for the first time ever - we have been recognised as one of the best workplaces in Finland. The recognition feels really good and encourages us to continue to use the researched data not only as a measure of employee experience, but also as a tool for development," says Minna Johansson, Culture Manager at Eckerö Line.

Great Place to Work publishes an annual list of the Best Workplaces in Finland by size category. The list is based on the employee experience measured by personnel research in each organisation that has been added to the list. In addition, medium and large organisations will be subject to a qualitative audit of culture.
